The Group Creative Director of Kennedy and mum-of-one invites us into her journey with son Preston ahead of Mother’s Day
“The moment I held my son in my arms for the first time was the most extraordinary moment of my life,” shares Jaimee Belle Kennedy of her first seconds of motherhood, a precious moment between herself and son Preston that she’ll never forget.
It’s these transformational experiences and the countless others that unfold between a mother and a child that make us realise just how extraordinary a figure these women are in our lives — they’re your best friend, your biggest supporter and the one who’s always there.
As we approach Mother’s Day, we share a moving conversation with the Group Creative Director of Kennedy and mum-of-one, in which she shares the biggest lesson motherhood has taught her, how she balances her career with family time, and more.
Could you please tell us about an extraordinary moment shared between you and Preston?
“The moment I held my son in my arms for the first time was the most extraordinary moment of my life. The moments before he entered this world felt like slow motion. I vividly remember saying to myself ‘wow, this is it. I am about to meet my son; my life is forever about to change’. It was like a rebirth.
The moment he entered the world, I felt the most intense love of my life. As I held him, I couldn’t believe how lucky I was. He was the most beautiful human I had ever laid eyes on in my life and I get to be his mother. He is truly the one who makes my heart smile.”
What has becoming a mother taught you about yourself?
“Becoming a mother has been a very transformative experience. Life has taken on new meaning. I am responsible for raising a tiny, wonderful human who is my greatest blessing. Motherhood has taught me strength, patience and resilience and, most importantly, love.”
How do you balance being a mother and your role as Group Creative Director?
“As the saying goes ‘you can have it all, just not at the same time’. Personally, I find this to be true. I am constantly having to adjust my priorities and something usually has to give. My current priorities are spending quality time with my son and working on some really exciting upcoming projects of mine within our business.
Luckily for me, I have extraordinary friends and colleagues who are also mothers who generously exchange parenting stories and advice. These women inspire me every day.”
